One Bucket Closer to Reducing the Spread of Cancer-Causing Chemicals

Firefighters can be exposed to hundreds of different chemicals in the form of gases, vapors, and particulates. Some of these chemical substances are known or suspected to cause cancer and dirty turnout gear also exposes firefighters to cancer-causing chemicals.

While cancer may never be fully eliminated we can take steps to reduce the number of firefighters being diagnosed with cancer each year.
In an effort to support our local volunteer fire-rescue-ems departments in the reduction of firefighter related cancers, the Calvert County Fire-Rescue-EMS Division presented Chief Brent Lankford, Firefighter Bob Rogers and Firefighter Jack Green of St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department with a Firefighter Decon Kit.

All volunteer fire-rescue-ems departments will soon have a firefighter decon kit as we are committed to doing our part to reducing firefighter related cancers.
