Did you know that you can decrease your risk of carcinogen contamination considerably by performing a wet-soap decon immediately after fighting a fire? |

Exposure to carcinogens on the fireground and in the firehouse puts not only the firefighter at risk but also their loved ones as there is a potential to transfer those carcinogens even after the leaving the firehouse. Decontamination procedures are a simple and effective way to help remove these carcinogens from gear and equipment to reduce the risk. In an effort to support our local volunteer fire-rescue-ems departments in the reduction of firefighter related cancers, the Calvert County Fire-Rescue-EMS Division presented North Beach Volunteer Fire Department with a Firefighter Decon Kit on Wednesday morning. This kit allows our volunteers to quickly and effectively decontaminate tools, protective equipment and most importantly themselves after a fire and we are committed to doing anything we can to help reduce their risk of exposure. |
