On Tuesday, August 29th the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners recognized three of our dedicated volunteers; Nick Boswell of Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department along with Caroline Robinson and Travis Winston both of Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department, for their accomplishments during the 2023 SkillsUSA Maryland State Competition.

During the competition the cadets were tested not only on technical skills but also teamwork, professionalism, problem-solving, and critical thinking. These are all skills they learned as recruits at the Calvert Career and Technology Academy while enrolled in the Calvert County High School Recruitment Firefighting/EMT program.

Their dedication to honing their skills, combined with perseverance, and the ability to excel under pressure is why they all placed in this competition. Nick Boswell competed and earned a Gold Medal in the Firefighting competition while Travis Winston and Caroline Robinson competed as a team in the Emergency Medical Technician competition earning Silver Medals.
