The Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association (SMVFA) Honor Guard, known for their motto "Proud to honor those who answered their last alarm," is looking for new members to join their esteemed ranks. This volunteer team represents the fire service with honor and dignity at memorial services, funerals, parades, and other formal events across Southern Maryland honoring our fallen brothers and sisters. Comprised of volunteers from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Counties, the Honor Guard is made up of dedicated members who are passionate about preserving the traditions of the fire service. Every member plays a crucial role in ceremonies that pay tribute to those who have served their communities, at events like the Maryland State Firefighters Association Annual Convention, Blue Crabs Stadium First Responders Night, Taps Across America, Memorial Services and many more community events. To be eligible, all prospective Honor Guard members must be voting members in good standing at their respective fire departments. Joining this prestigious team is a profound way to give back to the fire service by honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. If you’re interested in joining this remarkable group, contact Honor Guard Commander Steve Winkler at 301-399-9192 for more information on how to get involved. By joining the SMVFA Honor Guard, you’ll not only take part in honoring our fallen brothers and sisters, but you’ll also help uphold the long-standing traditions of respect and dedication that define our fire service. |
