In September, Calvert Fire-Rescue-EMS came together to support a cause close to our hearts: Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. To raise awareness and honor the bravery of children battling cancer, we designed and distributed a custom t-shirt to our volunteers. The t-shirts served as a symbol of solidarity, not only for the children and families affected but also for the healthcare professionals who provide critical care and support during such challenging times.

In addition to providing shirts to so many of our dedicated volunteers, Calvert Fire-Rescue-EMS made a special donation to the oncology nurses at CalvertHealth Medical Center. These nurses dedicate themselves to offering compassionate care to both patients and their families, providing a steady hand and unwavering support throughout the most difficult moments. The donation of shirts was our way of recognizing their incredible commitment and expressing our gratitude for their tireless work.

These shirts didn’t just stay local, either. Two of the t-shirts even traveled all the way to Ireland with one of CalvertHealth's dedicated oncology nurses and her husband. The shirts became an international symbol of support, proudly worn to spread awareness and remind people, no matter where they are, of the importance of standing with children and families impacted by cancer.

Cancer impacts not only the patient but also their entire support system, and the oncology nurses are an essential part of that system. We hope these t-shirts serve as a reminder to our community of the importance of supporting each other through times of hardship and show that no one fights alone.

Calvert Fire-Rescue-EMS remains committed to raising awareness for childhood cancer, recognizing the selfless dedication of healthcare providers, and supporting our community in meaningful ways. Together, we can make a difference.
