With profound sadness, Calvert County Fire-Rescue-EMS would like to extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Fred William Holzberger III, life member and past president of the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, who passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2024, at the age of 82. Fred dedicated his life to serving the community, beginning his journey in the fire service at just 16 years old when he joined the Landover Hills Volunteer Fire Department in 1958. Fred's dedication continued with the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, where he played a crucial role in the construction of the current station. His leadership and service were exceptional, holding various roles over his years of service, including Chief and President, that supported both his station and the community. His contributions extended beyond fire service, including his work with the Prince George’s County Police Department, the Maryland Racing Authority, and Prince George’s County Environmental Resources. Fred’s love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with his passion for trains, planes, and fire trucks, were always evident. He leaves behind an enduring legacy of dedication and leadership in the fire service community. We extend our deepest condolences to Fred’s family and friends during this difficult time. His commitment to service and his vibrant spirit will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Fred. Your impact on the Public Safety community and all those who had the privilege of knowing you will be felt for generations to come. Visitation and service details are as follows: Mass of Christian Burial: Interment: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation. |
