Who knew learning about lungs could be so much fun? Members of the Calvert County Volunteer Fire-Rescue-EMS Division recently got a firsthand look as the Calvert County Career and Technology Academy (CTA) Fire Sciences Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class turned into a DIY lung factory!
Forget textbooks – these aspiring EMTs dove headfirst into the world of respiration by building their very own lung models. Armed with nothing but balloons, tape, markers, pens, scissors, straws, and plastic cups, they brought the magic of breathing to life.
These future lifesavers pieced together their creations, figuring out how those balloons (aka "lungs") inflate and deflate with every pump of the diaphragm. Talk about a hands-on way to understand how it all works!
This wasn't just about textbook knowledge – it was about getting those hands dirty and really grasping the delicate dance of breathing. By building their own models, these future EMTs gained a whole new appreciation for the intricate system that keeps us all going.
This visit was a testament to the power of hands-on learning. By blending textbook smarts with practical skills, these future EMTs are well on their way to becoming the skilled and compassionate heroes our community needs. |
