Tuition Assistance Program

The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) offers a Tuition Assistance Program to support eligible volunteer Fire-Rescue-EMS members. This program is funded annually at $112,079, which is allocated among the volunteer departments each fiscal year.

The Tuition Assistance Program helps cover costs such as tuition, registration, lab fees, tele-course fees, web fees, and books for college, technical school, or other professional education or certification programs.

To qualify, applicants must be current active volunteer members, as defined in the Calvert County Code, Title 14: Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP).

Application Process

Applications are available:

Application Deadlines

  • Fall Semester: June 30
  • Spring Semester: November 30

Review and Approval

Applications are reviewed by the Fire, Rescue, and EMS Association Recruitment & Retention Committee, which recommends funding levels for each applicant. Final decisions are made by the Fire-Rescue-EMS Office based on available funding.
